CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS 2017

What a time to be alive, Canada turns 150 years old this July 1st and we’ve never seen the country look so good. A plethora of celebrations are planned spanning the entire length of the year in all corners of the country. Here are just a few that are sure to be the most memorable.

OTTAWA 
Our nations capitol is most definitely going to be one of the most popular celebration destinations this year. There are a flurry of free events and parties all year long, most notably at the Shaw Centre in partnership with CIBC. On July 1st join your fellow Canadians for a night of exquisite Canadian cuisine and watch the enormous fire works display through the Shaw Center’s glass walls and ceiling.

VANCOUVER
One of the most aesthetically pleasing provinces will host a 9 day festival in Larwill Park, a 2.7 acre space that will eventually be home to The Vancouver Art Gallery. The much anticipated festival dubbed ‘The Drum is Calling’ will feature acts from Canadian culture, specifically Native American and Aboriginal  cultures and will take place July 22-30th.

TORONTO
The Waterfront and Redpath are teaming up to bring you free events starting July 1st- 3rd to honour Canada on this monumentuos birthday. Enjoy a long stroll and take in all of the sights and sounds that Toronto and Lake Ontario have to offer. More information on this three day event will be provided soon on toronto.ca.

MONTREAL
Old Port in Montreal is putting on a show for the ages this year. Their free Canada day celebrations include a full  day of activities on July 1st including; food trucks, gun salutes, musical performances, blow up jumpers for kids, street dancing and fireworks to cap off the night. They will also serve a massive birthday cake at 12:30 pm with an estimated 2,500 slices of cake for their guests.
Montreal’s annual Canada Day parade will also make its way through the streets of Old Port beginning at 11 am.

Being a Canadian company ourselves, Aura Effect recognizes the importance of this Canadian birthday for the entire country. Our Canadian pride is always shining but this year will be extra bright. So we had a challenge going on at our office over this past month. Today is the day we crowned a winner!  Now you might remember this contest was centered around Youtube's slideshow builder and it became quite the talked about event.

This morning everyone sat down together for the premier of The Slide Show Down.  All entries were played in a random order and no one was allowed to take credit for their works until voting polls had closed.

Now needless to say, all of these works of art were outstanding and creative.  There is one however that stole the show and won by a land slide.  We had to go to the rule books on this one, as the question did come up, was this made with the slideshow builder?  With that in mind, the vote stilled swayed towards this insightful and amazing portrayal of a glowing birthday experience.  We are happy to announce the winner Micheal-John who also happens to be the Digital Media Manager around here at Aura Effect.

The Glow Furniture Slide Show Showdown

Yesterday evening was the second growth and development meeting of February, which has become a weekly event that we all look forward to.  The environment for this creative brainstorming affair is easy going, fun and resembles that of a night out with friends.  It has proven to be a valuable approach and promotes a free exchange of ideas.

Now, although last nights gathering was suppose to involve a new glowing display idea, complete with setup, it was sidelined by Youtube and a little thing called slide show builder!  This became our main topic of discussion as we all gathered around the open laptop in the middle of the boardroom table.

What ensued was amazing.  All of us were rearranging pictures, and of course no one could agree while listening to countless stock audio options and songs.  There was a lot of banter going on as everyone felt strongly about there choice of order and accompanied sound track.

Two great things came from this, one being, our first slide show was born!  Check it out!

The second......a friendly competition.  What could have and should have been completed in half hour took way to much time!

Hence, The Slide Show Showdown!  The challenge goes like this, every member of our team is required to make a slide show of their choice.  We will then view all entries in no set order and let the voting begin.  Everyone is allowed one entry and they can not vote for their own creation.
