Celebrate Toronto 2016 - A Successful Event

On March 6th the City of Toronto turned 182 years old! Apparently not alot of people including myself were aware of this milestone.  Living in Toronto for most of my life, I was surprised that not much was happening to celebrate our fine city on the day of its birth.

Well here is a bit of history, in 1834 York became a city and was renamed Toronto which grew steadily during the 19th century. Businesses were growing at a rapid pace, including the meat packing industry leading to the nickname "Hogtown". Through it's subsequent evolution and expansion Toronto has emerged as one of the most livable and multicultural urban places in the world today. We have a neighborhood for pretty much everyone including Chinatown, Greektown, Little Italy, Little Portugal and the list goes on. In a city where islands are just a ferry ride away and Indy coffee shops outnumber Starbucks, Toronto has become more culinary refined than ever!  St Lawerence and Kensington Market speak for themselves, I mean we even have a museum dedicated to shoes for goodness sake!  Sure it gets cold but how can we truly appreciate those summer beach party days and our beautiful seasons without going through a little bit of deep freeze in the winter months.

So imagine our excitement when we at Aura Effect were approached to become a sponsor for a non profit organization called Celebrate Toronto. Started by a beautiful local artist named Micayla Doria, her great vision and tireless determination launched The Celebrate Toronto event in 2013. This fun filled gala is made up of an amazing group of like minded people who are working towards inspiring  and informing others to make a positive impact in our city. Throughout the year they are dedicated to the development of sustainable projects across our fair city. So on March 5th at The Steam Whistle Brewery Roundhouse they organized an amazing night out with a collaboration of local artists, entertainers and businesses celebrating Toronto's past, present and future.  The fun never stopped with amazing bands, body-paint gals, photo booths, yummy food, illuminated furniture and of course Steam Whistle beer. So let's start building the excitement now Toronto, for next years big 3 day event! Celebrate Toronto hosts the 183rd birthday bash March 4th - 6th, 2017.
Hope to see you all there!
